THE LOVE OF JESUS ______________________________________________________________________________________________
At the heart of this prisons ministry is a burning desire that Jesus’ life transforming love may be experienced by and change the lives of people who are often wrongly labelled as being hopeless cases. Some time ago we told the story in our quarterly Prayer and Newsletter of the moving way some of the men in one UK prison responded to learning and singing that old children’s favourite – “Jesus loves me…..”
Since then a "friend" of our founder Bob Spratt has sent him a six verse version especially for old people like him!
Jesus loves me, this I know
Though my hair is white as snow
Though my sight is growing dim
Still he bids me trust in him.
This set him thinking, why not have a version for prisoners – after all, Jesus loves them too!
Here is what he came up with:-

Jesus loves me - Prisoners' version
1. Jesus loves me, this I know
for the Bible tells me so Even though I'm stuck in jail His love for me will never fail Yes Jesus loves me Yes Jesus loves me Yes Jesus loves me The Bible tells me so. 2. A Christian told me this is true even when I'm feeling blue and the long days seem dark as night Into that dark He'll shine His light Chorus 3, Such love and light! What do they mean? From sin and shame can I be clean? Yes. Jesus died upon that tree in love for me to set me free. Chorus |
4. Although He died - now Jesus lives
His love and life He freely gives to all who come to Him and say "Please Jesus - wash my sins away" Chorus 5. Now I'm forgiven - wow that's great A brand new life free of all hate is mine because of Jesus' blood How wonderful is God above Chorus 6. The change that Jesus made in me I hope is clear for all to see as Jesus' love and life and light now brightens up the darkest night Chorus |
When you sing it, remember that after each verse is the chorus –
“Yes Jesus loves me,
Yes Jesus loves me,
Yes Jesus loves me,
The Bible tells me so”.
“Yes Jesus loves me,
Yes Jesus loves me,
Yes Jesus loves me,
The Bible tells me so”.
