REFLECTING JESUS
Some thoughts by Bob Spratt
Some of us find ourselves caught up trying to do so many things – even very important things – that we can risk getting our eyes off Jesus our wonderful Saviour and Lord. So what are we to do?
Certainly not stop doing things. But how do we know what to do? How can we establish priorities when so many needs appear to be urgent – “needed doing yesterday” type of needs? You can even read details of some of these on this website!
Some wear WWJD wrist bands – “What would Jesus do?” and that is certainly a pretty good question to ask! However, to try to emulate Him I suggest we need to be very close to Him. We need to keep our eyes firmly on Him and our weak hands in his strong ones.
That all sounds very fine but “how?” you may ask.
Well – we can start to learn more about him from our Bibles. His name appears 1,098 times in the four gospels where we can read about him from before he was born until after he rose from the dead and ascended into heaven.
We can find out from this who he really is - there seem to be all kinds of alternative Jesus’s on offer today – from prophet to just a good man. We can also discover why he came – including to save us from our sins and bring us to eternal life. We can also read about what he did when he was on this earth – including his love and care for the unloved and marginalised - and that may give some clues.
Learning about him is, however, only a part of all this. Praise God there’s more!!
Because of the price he paid in dying for us, and because he rose victoriously from the dead, we can actually know Him and I believe that if we are in any small way to reflect him and be his witnesses in word and deed in today’s world it is vital we witness to the one we know – our risen living Saviour and our friend - not just someone from the past that we know about!
May the light of Jesus shine through you!

Jesus went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom.
And he stood up to read. The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written:
"The Spirit of the Lord is on me,
because he has annointed me
to preach good news to the poor
He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners
and recovery of sight for the blind,
to release the oppressed,to proclaim the year of the Lord's favour."
Luke 4: 16-19 (NIV)

FAITH, HOPE and LOVE
Some thoughts by Bob Spratt -
adapted from Nov 2008 Prayer & Newsetter.
In 1 Corinthians 13: 13 we are told “…now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love “
This is wonderful news, but sadly as we look at so much brokenness in society today there seem to be lots of people who do not know this. more>>>
