POINTERS FOR PRAYER and THANKSGIVING
August 2021

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

DAILY PRAYER POINTERS
1. Sunday. Give thanks and pray for those who are finding ways to progress from lockdown to holding chapel services again especially where there may be ongoing restrictions.
2. Pray for success in combating efforts to get addictive drugs and substances that have caused severe reactions and even deaths into prisons.
3. Pray for the provision of water in Ethiopian prisons. This had much improved in recent years, however periods of drought can still seriously affect this.
4.  Pray for those who are in prison on remand awaiting trial especially for any who may be falsely accused.
5. Pray for prison health care departments attending to many different needs from  problems caused by addiction and poor lifestyle choices to long Covid-19 challenges.
6. Pray for prisoner "listeners" in UK prisons who help to support prisoners in distress and the Samaritans who train and support them.
7. Pray for decision makers still considering safe ways to relax some of the restrictions on prisoner movement following covid-19.
8. Sunday. Pray that as covid-19 restrictions are relaxed and prisoners are able to attend services again that they will be able to cope with the new "normal" whatever that may be.
9. Pray for prisoners who may be feeling abandoned that they may know the reality of Jesus' saving grace and his continuing presence with them.
10. Pray that resources will be available to provide potentially life-saving support for prisoners who are mentally ill, distressed, risking self harming and suicide especially when this is exacerbated following weeks of covid-19 related isolation
11. Pray that links may be strengthened with those working in the UK amongst people affected by imprisonment particularly prisoners' partners and children.
12. Pray for Ethiopian volunteer health workers that they may be able to obtain necessary clinical equipment and medicines whether for covid-19 or other needs
13. Pray for our trustees as they continue to seek to lead the work in the way the Lord intends. The detail of this inevitably includes addressing some of the interruptions caused by covid-19 restrictions, Ethiopian internet problems etc.
14. Pray for Community Chaplains/Resettlement co-ordinators and mentoring schemes whose work has been seriously impeded in recent months as they have opportunity once again to take up their valuable support work.
15. Sunday.  Pray and give thanks for prison chaplains some of whom have found imaginative ways to provide pastoral support and Bible teaching etc. during these difficult times. May such initiatives continue to be a blessing in the new "normal".
16. Pray for those undergoing theological training and maybe considering a vocation to prison chaplaincy.
17. Pray for the children of prisoners including those being cared for in Ethiopia under the REFUGE scheme..
18. Pray for children in prison with their mothers, including Twinkle of Hope in Ethiopia and that appropriate focused support can be possible in these continuing difficult days.
19. Pray for prisoners who are trying to overcome personality disorders and the effects of addictions which takes a lot of hard work and commitment
20. Pray for the Ethiopian chaplain coordinators supported through this Trust. Due to the current situation it has not been possible to arrange the hosting of a National Conference this year but several Regional ones are now being planned.
21. Pray for chaplains in UK prisons working to bring hope into the lives of people who may be struggling with bereavement, serious illness of a close relative or other deep emotional issues on top of the restrictions and uncertainties caused by covid-19.
22. Sunday. Give thanks for those communicating God's life changing good news to those in prison even when all around the news may seem to be bad.
23. Pray for improved support for prisoners and ex prisoners that some of their complex needs may be able to be addressed and the cycle of re-offending broken.
24. Pray for those who seek to help prisoners with housing issues and arrange for accommodation on release.
25. Pray for those prisoners who are struggling with age related medical conditions which leave them vulnerable in the prison environment.
26. Pray for the families of prisoners, so often suffering on account of their loved one's behaviour.
27. Pray for prisoners who hold extremist religious or racist views, that they would come to a more reasoned understanding and true faith born out of love.
28. Pray for those who work in the administrative departments of the prison as they work to ensure that the prison is well run especially at this time.
29. Sunday. Give thanks for those here in the UK and in Ethiopia who provide Bibles and Christian literature for use in prisons including personal copies which prisoners can take with them as they move from prison to prison and on release..
30. Pray for prisoners with no support from family or friends on the outside. This can be for many reasons including court orders, not just from family squabbles.
31  Continue to pray that more churches will be ready to welcome and support those leaving prison and longing to explore more deeply the life that's found alone in Jesus.

I have come into the world as a light, so that no-one who believes in me should stay in darkness.        John 12: 46

PRISONS PARTNERSHIP PROJECT
Over the years it has been possible for prisoners in UK prisons to take part in a variety of activities that have resulted
in support for practical projects in Ethiopian prisons.  The efforts of prisoners in HMP Kirkham contributed to
the completion and commissioning last year off a sewage treatment plant in an Ethiopian prison where the area
surrounding the prison had also been affected by the smell from the existing inadequate system.
Pray that as the Covid-19 restrictions are lifted, it will be possible for this project to be activated once again.
