DAILY PRAYER POINTERS
1. Pray that the changing regulations and advice concerning what can and what can't be done during this covid-19 pandemic will be clear as they affects prisons..
2. Sunday. Give thanks and pray for those who are finding ways to communicate good news to those in prison even when all around the news is bad and there is no corporate worship in the chapel. 3. Pray for success in combating efforts to get addictive drugs and substances that have caused severe reactions and even deaths into prisons. 4. Pray for the provision of water in Ethiopian prisons. This had much improved in recent years, however periods of drought can still seriously affect this. 5. Pray for those who are in prison on remand awaiting trial especially for any who may be falsely accused. 6. Pray for prison health care departments attending to many different needs from problems caused by addiction and poor lifestyle choices to Covid-19 challenges. 7. Pray for prisoner "listeners" who help to support prisoners in distress and the Samaritans who train and support them. This can be adversely affected during the covid-19 movement restrictions 8. Pray for decision makers considering safe ways to relax some of the restrictions on prisoner movement resulting from covid-19 9. Sunday. Pray for prisoners still in the isolation of their cells due to covid-19 related regulations on a day which would normally have a good deal of association time including opportunities for worship. 10. Pray for prisoners who may be feeling abandoned that they may know the reality of Jesus' saving grace and his continuing presence with them. 11. Pray that resources will be available to provide potentially life-saving support for prisoners who are mentally ill, distressed, risking self harming and suicide especially when this is exacerbated by weeks of covid-19 related isolation 12. Pray that links may be strengthened with those working in the UK amongst those affected by imprisonment particularly prisoners' partners and children. 13. Pray for Ethiopian volunteer health workers that they may be able to obtain necessary clinical equipment and medicines whether for covid-19 or other needs 14. Pray for those undergoing theological training and maybe considering a vocation to prison chaplaincy. 15. Pray for Community Chaplains/Resettlement co-ordinators and mentoring schemes whose work is seriously impeded. 16. Sunday. Pray and give thanks for prison chaplains many of whom have found imaginative ways to provide pastoral support during these difficult times. |
17. Pray for our trustees as they seek to lead the work in the way the Lord intends.
18. Pray for the children of prisoners including those being cared for in Ethiopia under the REFUGE scheme at a time when many places are on lockdown. 19. Pray for children in prison with their mothers, including Twinkle of Hope in Ethiopia and that appropriate focused support can be possible in these difficult days. 20. Pray for prisoners who are trying to overcome personality disorders and the effects of addictions which takes a lot of hard work and commitment 21. Pray for the Ethiopian chaplain coordinators supported through this Trust. Due to the current situation it has so far not been possible to arrange the hosting of a Conference this year. More sponsors needed. 22. Pray for chaplains in UK prisons working to bring hope into the lives of people who may be struggling with bereavement, serious illness of a close relative or other deep emotional issues on top of the restrictions and uncertainties caused by covid-19. 23. Sunday. Pray that as and when covid-19 restrictions begin to be relaxed and prisoners are able to attend services again that they will be able to cope with the new "normal" including in UK possibly no singing 24. Pray for improved support for prisoners and ex prisoners that some of their complex needs may be able to be addressed and the cycle of re-offending broken. 25. Pray for those who seek to help prisoners with housing issues and arrange for accommodation on release. 26. Pray for those prisoners who are struggling with age related medical conditions which leave them vulnerable in the prison environment. 27. Pray for the families of prisoners, so often suffering on account of their loved one's behaviour. 28. Pray for prisoners who hold extremist religious or racist views, that they would come to a more reasoned understanding and true faith born out of love. 29. Pray for those who work in the administrative departments of the prison as they work to ensure that the prison is well run especially at this time. 30. Sunday. Give thanks for Bible Society, Gideons, Good News for Everyone (formerly Gideons UK) and others who provide Bibles for use in prisons including personal copies. 31. Pray for prisoners with no support from family or friends on the outside. This can be for many reasons including court orders, not just from family squabbles. ___________________________________________ SOME WORDS OF JESUS I have come into the world as a light, so that no-one who believes in me should stay in darkness. PRISONS PARTNERSHIP PROJECT
Over the years it has been possible for prisoners in UK prisons to take part in a variety of activities that have resulted in support for practical projects in Ethiopian prisons. Last year HMP Kirkham prisoners helped raise money towards a sewage treatment plant in an Ethiopian prison where the area surrounding the prison was also being affected by the existing inadequate system.
Pray that as the Covid-19 restrictions are lifted, it will be possible for this project to be activated once again.
