DAILY PRAYER POINTERS
and additional Prayer Request _____________________________________________________________________________________
1 Sunday. Happy New Year! Pray that today some who feel hopeless will hear and receive the message of hope made possible by Jesus and, at the start of this year, begin a new hope filled life.
2 Pray for those who struggle with the very idea of a “happy” new year. This can even include people being released from prison which should be a happy event - especially if they have no money, no job prospects and nowhere to live. 3 Pray for our trustees that as we go into this new year they may be sensitive to the Lord’s leading as decisions are made that can affect the lives of so many marginalised people. 4 Give thanks for churches ready to welcome ex-offenders on release from prison with all their different needs and associated risks. 5 For elderly prisoners who have to cope with the reality of prison life as well as the rigours of old age 6 Pray for Governing Governors of prisons as they struggle with the effects of budget cuts while still trying to keep their establishments safe and deliver programmes that could help to reduce offending behaviour. 7 Pray for prison officers and other staff who have day to day interaction with prisoners that they may be alert to risks and able to prevent serious incidents. 8 Sunday. Pray that chaplains may be able to spend quality time with prisoners needing it and whose circumstances may prevent them joining in corporate worship. 9 Emmaus Bible Shool and others providing Bible Study opportunities for those in prisons in the UK and Ethiopia. 10 Alpha in Prisons, Christianity Explored and other courses and initiatives to share the goof news of Jesus with prisoners. 11 Ken Hollands and the Bible Study Group he leads each Wednesday in HM Prison, Wymott. 12 Pray for those prisons where there are vacancies in the chaplaincy team, especially that the ministry of those in post may not be unduly affected by the additional work load. 13 Pray for the training of prison chaplains that it would be appropriate and helpful to the fulfilment of their duties and responsibilities 14 Pray for prisoners who are seeking something to bring meaning into their lives that they would be able to find it in Jesus.. 15 Sunday. Pray for Christians in prison on account of their faith and all who do not have the freedom to gather for worship today. 16 Pray for Community Chaplains/Resettlement coordinators and mentoring schemes being developed to help ex-offenders live more ordered lives |
17 Pray for those responsible for making political decisions that affect prisons and prisoners in both the UK and Ethiopia.
18 Pray for the relationship between the Prison Officers Association and other trade unions and the Ministry of Justice especially in the current economic climate. 19 Pray for Trustee Bob Spratt and Marc Kelly of Step by Step (Cumbria) leading a life recovery group in HM Prison Haverigg each Thursday morning. 20 Pray for prison health care departments as they are faced with many different needs as well as problems caused by addiction and poor lifestyle choices 21 Pray that those convicted of racially motivated crimes will be able to come to know people from different backgrounds. 22 Sunday. Pray that seeds will be planted in the lives of staff who escort prisoners to Chapel, and that they will not be hardened to the Gospel. 23 Pray for prisoners who have lost their grandparents and cannot go to the funeral. Often these grandparents have been the only stable influence in their lives. 24 Pray for those unjustly or inappropriately in prison in many places throughout the world – some denied a fair trial or any trial at all. 25 Pray for Operation Grace, the 24/7 Prayer Group in HMP & YOI Doncaster and Way Beyond, God’s Ordinary People. 26 Pray for parole boards as they make decisions affecting the release of prisoners. 27 Greater Manchester Community Chaplaincy (GMCC) as they visit churches in their efforts to find more volunteers for their valuable work. 28 Pray for those with addictions seeking help from GMCC that they will know release and healing. 29 Sunday. Pray that prisoners attending chapel for other reasons than to worship the Lord will hear or see something that causes them to turn to him and be blessed in spite of themselvers and their initial intentions 30 Give thanks for all those former prisoners who having come to faith in the Lord Jesus are now serving the Lord in so many different ways. 31 Pray for Pastor Daniel who heads up the work of our partners Justice for All - Prison Fellowship Ethiopia (JFA-PFE) that he may have wisdom and courage and all that he needs in furthering the work to which he feels so strongly called by the Lord. |
ADDITIONAL PRAYER REQUEST
Please also pray for trustee Rebecca Ducker along with Jean Davies and Eric Young as they prepare to visit Ethiopia next month. Plans for the visit include visiting a number of prisons along with the team from Justice for All Prison Fellowship Ethiopia and taking part in a Conference for Pastors led by Rev Kingsley Armstrong of the Joshua Project. On this visit there will be quite an emphasis on the work amongst prisoners' children through the Twinkle of Hope and REFUGE projects.
Click here for more details about both of these two distinct projects and/or click here to visit Kingsley's site and see a video of Rebecca explaining the developing REFUGE project run by our partners in JFA-PFE with a lot of encouragement from her!
